EXPERIMENTING ON FLORIDA AND MADAGASCA NAPIER GRASS

AT BEN CAT DISTRICT, BINH DUONG PROVINCE

The experiment was carried out to evaluate the yield and nutritive value of two imported varieties of Napier grass (Penisetum purpureum Florida and Penisetum purpureum Madagasca) in Binh Duong province.

The results showed that yield and quality of Florida and Madagasca were higher as compared to that of King grass (control treatment).

Florida was proved that better than Madagasca and King grass with leaf/stem ratio were 47-48%, fresh matter yield was 29.5-32.1ton/cutting/ha and protein yield (based on DM) was 0.65 ton/cutting/ha. The root survival through dry season of Florida was similar to that of Madagasca but higher than that of King grass.

Utilization rate of Florida species, with dairy cattle, is 90% and higher than Madagasca as well as King grass (82.4 – 82.6%).
